River Bank Development Corporation was established in 1998 with a mandate to pursue community economic development in Prince Albert. River Bank’s objective was to improve the quality of life in core neighbourhoods through economic and social development.
Housing was always a focus at River Bank, their first involvement through the Neighbourhood Home Ownership Program (NHOP) which assisted low income families to purchase homes by joining a co-op. This program assisted 57 families in Prince Albert to purchase their own homes from 1998 to 2005. During this time, they also worked with Habitat for Humanity to establish a Habitat ReStore in Prince Albert.
In 2003, River Bank purchased and renovated two apartment buildings and continued to do so for the next 17 years. The corporation now has a major focus in not for profit housing, with interests in homelessness and specialty services. River Bank currently owns 100 units, made up of a mixture of multi family, duplexes and single family housing.
